RedSeed requires a reliable broadband connection to the internet.
If your internet connection experiences latency or low bandwidth (as discussed below), RedSeed users may experience slow page load times and/or performance related problems – especially when viewing video content.
RedSeed requires a reliable and consistent broadband connection to the internet.
If your network and internet connection cannot deliver a minimum of 150 kbps (low video quality) of data from our servers to an individual training PC your users may experience slow page load times and performance related problems - particularly when playing videos.
The table below shows the time taken, in seconds, to play a 60 second video file, depending on the video quality and the network bandwidth available. The bandwidth required for a single PC to play video with no problems is shown in RED:
The figures shown above refer to a single connection. The bandwidth requirements will increase in multi- user/concurrent training environments
We recommend that you allow enough bandwidth to support at least medium video quality. We only include the low video quality option as a last resort.
RedSeed Servers are located in the United States, all client requests that are not retrieved from cache will be international internet traffic.
Ideal network latency to RedSeed Servers from New Zealand:
If your users are experiencing sustained latency of 1 sec+ they may experience slow page load times and / or performance related problems using RedSeed.
To measure your network latency you can ping our servers, e.g. from a residential Telecom broadband connection:
64 bytes from 220.127.116.11: icmp_seq=0 ttl=49 time=258.144 ms
64 bytes from 18.104.22.168: icmp_seq=1 ttl=49 time=256.261 ms
64 bytes from 22.214.171.124: icmp_seq=2 ttl=49 time=258.106 ms
64 bytes from 126.96.36.199: icmp_seq=3 ttl=49 time=256.460 ms
You can monitor the wait times and throughput with an HTTP inspection tool such as:
|IE Developer Tools (F12)||PC||Requires IE9+ with IE developer tools enabled|
|Firebug Firefox Extension||PC, Mac||http://getfirebug.com/downloads*|
|HTTPFox Firefox Extension||PC, Mac||http://addons.mozilla.org./En-us/firefox/addon/httpfox/|
Note: Although this can be used for troubleshooting, we recommend disabling Firebug when using the RedSeed system.
