Glossary: What do these RedSeed terms mean?
Active
One of the four statuses of a trainee's course progress. This status means the trainee has started the course and is actively working their way through it. The other three statuses are Complete, Inactive and Not Started.
Administrator
A user type with a predefined set of permissions that allow access to key management tools across the platform. Administrators can edit users, create and assign learning pathways, upload courses, issue certificates, and perform a range of other platform-wide tasks.
Certificate
A PDF certificate is automatically generated for the trainee upon completion of a course — but only if a certificate has been allocated to that course.
Coach (Manager)
A user type typically associated with managing a team at a location. They’re responsible for coaching their team through courses that include workbook marking and/or practical activities.
Coaches also have access to the Dashboard and the reporting suite, and can be enrolled in courses themselves — just like a trainee.
Coach and Admin Dashboard
This dashboard is available to coaches, managers and administrators. It provides an overview of all current training for the people and locations the user has visibility of.
From here, users can manage trainees (add, edit, archive), view and generate reports, and — for coaches — access marking and coaching.
Complete
One of the four statuses of a trainee's course progress. The trainee has completed the course. The other three statuses are Active, Inactive and Not Started.
Course
An eLearning module that a trainee can be enrolled in. Courses may include videos, quizzes, workbooks, practical activities and assessments — all designed to build knowledge and skills.
Enrolment
The process of assigning a course to a trainee. Once enrolled, the trainee can access and begin the course.
Energy Report
This report shows the level of engagement in training across the locations you have visibility of. To learn more about the Energy Report and what it means for your company, click here.
Exam
The final session of the course consists generally of randomised multi-choice questions, which will consist of the following parameters: time to complete, percentage pass mark and the number of attempts allowed.
Inactive
One of the four statuses of a trainee's course progress. The trainee is currently inactive, i.e. they have not completed any training within the last x number days. The number of days before a trainee becomes inactive in a course is generally set between 7 and 10 days. The other three statuses are Complete, Active and Not Started.
Inactivity Alerts
On becoming inactive in a course the trainee will show in the inactivity alert list on the Coach and Admin dashboard. Inactivity alerts can be generated by any Admin or HR user on the same level or any level above the trainee's level location. These inactivity alerts are sent directly to the inactive user via email and are logged in the system.
Location
The area or group a user is associated with — often reflecting the company’s physical or organisational structure. A user’s location directly affects their permissions and determines what they can see and manage in the system.
The process of accessing RedSeed in either Training mode or Coach and Admin mode. Users can log in using their username or email and password, by clicking the ‘Start training’ button in their welcome email, by requesting a login link via email, or — if supported by their organisation — through Single Sign-On (SSO). For more details, see the How to log in to RedSeed article.
Notifications
Automated emails sent by the RedSeed system. These may be triggered by manager actions — like a workbook being marked complete — or sent automatically based on course progress. For example, RedSeed sends inactivity alerts when a trainee hasn’t started a course or has been inactive for a certain period of time.
Not Started
One of the four course progress statuses. This means the trainee has been enrolled in the course but hasn’t begun training yet. The other statuses are Complete, Active, and Inactive.
Password
A password is required to log in to the RedSeed system. It helps keep a user’s training account secure and is used alongside their username or email address.
Practical Activity
A course requirement that must be completed with a coach before a session can be marked as complete. It involves the trainee practising key techniques from the session, while being observed and coached in a real-world context.
Role
A defined and customisable label used to describe a user’s position within an organisation — for example, manager, team member, or coordinator. Roles allow for more granularity in reporting by helping group and compare users based on their job function.
SkillsCheck
A SkillsCheck is an interactive way for trainees to demonstrate the knowledge they have learnt in a course to their Coach.
Trainee
A RedSeed user type. Trainees can be enrolled in training but don’t have access to the RedSeed Dashboard or reporting suite. Their view is focused solely on completing the courses they’ve been assigned.
Username
A unique identifier for each user in the RedSeed system.
User
A person with a RedSeed account. Users can be defined as an Administrator, Coach / Manager, or Trainee.
Workbook Question
A component of a course, generally a long-answer question that requires marking by a Coach. Some courses may also include custom question types.
Workbook Marking
The process where a marking manager reviews and marks a trainee’s workbook answers. Each question has a model answer, and responses are marked as correct or incorrect — with the option to include a comment for feedback.
