Setting Up in RedSeed
Welcome to your RedSeed LMS! We look forward to seeing your business grow!
Check out our video based LMS User Guide for Administrators here.
But where do you go from here? What do you actually do first? Glad you asked! This guide will take you through setting up your business in RedSeed.
RedSeed LMS is a simple-to-use LMS (Learning Management System) for you and your employees. While being easy to use, there's a lot of power under the hood - which is why we created this quick guide to help you become familiar with the app in the least time possible.
Here's our guide to getting started…
Adding locations
Locations help you organize your business within RedSeed. To add a new location, click the 'Add location' button on your Dashboard.
Give your location a name and select a location type—Region, Store, or Department. If your RedSeed setup includes preloaded pathways, courses and resources, you can choose which ones to make available at this location. Otherwise, you can add courses in the next step: Adding courses!
Adding courses
Let's add your first course to RedSeed. Navigate to the 'Courses' section via the 'Manage' menu dropdown at the top of the page.
This page is your main hub for maintaining existing courses and adding new ones. Lets start by adding a new course, click the ‘Add new course’ button and choose the ‘Add SCORM/xAPI course’ option. We have a few requirements when uploading a course to RedSeed which you can read here. Click ‘Browse’ or drag and drop your course ZIP file into the area provided. Once we have processed your file you will be redirected to the ‘Course settings’ page.
From this page you will need to provide some basic details around your course like the course name, description etc. There are a few other settings which are explained on this page here which we recommend you read before changing anything.
To be able to enroll users you'll need to set the course status to ‘Active’. Once you have entered all your details press the ‘Save changes’ button. Congratulations! You’ve just uploaded your first piece of training content to RedSeed.
Adding users
It's now time to add users to RedSeed so they can begin their training. Navigate to your Dashboard and under the ‘Users’ panel click the ‘Add user’ button. Enter the new users details and click the ‘Save user and continue to courses’ button. For more information on adding users click here.
How to enrol a user in a course
Normally when you add a user to RedSeed you're automatically redirected to the ‘Edit enrollments’ page to enrol that new user in some courses. However, you can enrol users in courses at any time.
Go to your ‘Dashboard’ and using the ‘Locations’ panel navigate to the location of the user you want to enrol in some courses. Once you find that user click on their name and select the ‘Edit Enrollments’ button.
To enrol a user in a course, use the toggl next to the course or pathway name, then press the ‘Save’ button in the ‘Pending changes’ box. Some courses and pathways will require you to select a coach for that user's enrollment, you can do this by using the dropdown box.
However, if you aren't adding a new user you can still enrol users in courses. For more information on enrolling users in courses click here.
Set default coaches
Let's briefly cover marking in RedSeed… Marking is done by Coaches and Coaches are assigned to users enrollments in courses to mark them when required.
There are two main ways to assign a coach to mark a user's enrollments:
- Via the users ‘Edit enrollments’ page, you can read how to do that here.
- Setting a default coach for a particular location. This means any new enrollments for users will be assigned to that location's default coach. This can help making it much easier to manage.
To set a default coach for a location go to any location via your RedSeed dashboard and select the ‘Edit location’ button. From this page you can select a Coach from the dropdown under the ‘Default coach’ section.
Add resources
Resources are a great way of providing your users with documentation they may require during their training or as a part of their job. We allow you to upload the following file formats:
- .xlsx
- .docx
- .mp4
To upload a resource to RedSeed navigate to the ‘Resources’ section via the menu bar at the top of the page. Select the ‘Add new resource’ button and like courses click ‘Browse’ or drag and drop your resource file into the area provided. You will be redirected to the ‘Edit Resource’ page where you will need to provide a few basic details before pressing ‘Save changes’
For more information on uploading and editing Resources click here.
Add pathways
A Learning Pathway allows you to control which courses users are enrolled in and in what order.
For instance, once a user completes the first course in a Learning Pathway they will be automatically enrolled in the next course. This makes training and managing enrollments seamless by removing the time it takes for Managers and Administrators to enrol users in courses.
This lets you dedicate more time to other aspects of your businesses development without having to worry about maintaining user enrollments. Pathways do it all for you!
Pathways require a bit of explaining so click here to find out more on how to set up your first pathway!
Watching the charts on your dashboard
Your Dashboard provides you with an overview of courses, locations, users and training within your business. Your level of access, or what you can and can't see on the dashboard, is determined by the location of your account within your business. For example, if you're an administrator at head-office you may be able to see all your users and training for all your locations. However, if you're a manager at a lower level, you will only be able to see the users and training for that location and below only!
